Dr. Nyapati R. Rao, MD, MS and Chair of Psychiatry and behavior sciences at NuHealth System at  Nassau University Medical Center has been elevated to Fellow of the American College of Psychiatrists, reported a recent press release.

The press release states that membership in The College is limited to 750 participating psychiatrists who have demonstrated outstanding competence in the field of psychiatry, and who have achieved national recognition in one of the following fields: clinical practice, research, academic leadership, and teaching. New members must be nominated by Fellows or members of The College who are personally familiar with their work and career.

President/CEO Arthur Gianelli said “we are pleased that Dr. Rao has been elevated to Fellow of the American College of Psychiatrists. Dr. Rao’s commitment to scholarly research and his unwavering interest in recruiting, retaining and enhancing culturally and linguistically competent mental health professionals, makes him the ideal leader to receive the honor bestowed on members who have made significant contributions to ACP and the field of psychiatry and behavioral sciences.”

Dr. Rao expressed his gratitude, “I am extremely grateful to Art and Steve for their unwavering support to my academic activities and, consequently, any national recognition that I receive is as much theirs as it is mine. The Fellowship of American College will offer me opportunities to understand the trends and priorities in academic medicine and use that knowledge to further strengthen our academic undertaking at NUMC. A strong commitment to academic mission at NUMC will only elevate the quality of care we deliver, strengthen the professionalism of our workforce, and enable the practice of cutting edge medicine to the befit of it all.”
