NuHealth System at Nassau University Medical Center opened a new Eye Center on Friday, October 14th, providing specialty and emergency ophthalmological services and care.

A recent press release stated that NuHealth officials, along with board of directors and staff have opened the new Eye Center at NUMC. The Eye Center had been previously located in a trailer for almost 40 years, and finally has relocated to a new facility on the first floor of the B building at NUMC.

For almost 50 years, the Eye Center had been providing the residents of Nassau County with superior eye care, ranging from comprehensive eye exams to emergency eye care and to specialized eye surgeries to its 11,000 eye outpatient center patients and over 600 surgeries each year.

NuHealth officials noted that the renovations were undertaken with $600,000 from NUMC’s capital project funds. The new state-of-the-art 3,500 square ft. facility is fully equipped with ten new eye exam rooms.

The services include specialty ophthalmological services with highly sophisticated diagnostic and treatment technologies not often found in private eye care centers. The services also include cataract surgery, glaucoma, retina and vitreous disease, pediatric eye care, eye care for trauma patients, laser vision corrections, etc.
